I'm stoked to present "Where I Have Never Been", a limited edition square 8" lathe-cut picture disc featuring two songs (plus a download code for a third/bonus track). Music by The Beetweens with artwork by me.

The Beetweens are a recent endeavor that consists of my friend Brian, my friend Derek, and myself making music for fun and the love of creating collaboratively. The three of us grew up in the same neighborhood in the same suburb of Chicago. I have known both of these guys for well over half my life at this point and played music with each of them on and off that entire time.

Derek and I formed our first band together when we were freshmen in high school. We were already friends and had been listening to a lot of punk rock. We would skate and go to shows together regularly, so it made sense to try making our own music like some of our friends were already doing. I remember talking about the band I was trying to start as we lined up to get into a local show, and he said he would play bass.

Around that same time, Brian and I bonded over our shared interest in skateboarding and absurdist humor. We made prank phone calls, edited our own homemade skate videos, and constantly cracked each other up. Eventually, he picked up a guitar and caught up to the rest of us quickly. We started to jam sometimes in high school, then occasionally in college, and even when playing in other bands we have more or less consistently collaborated musically for the last fifteen years.

Brian and I began working on these songs in early summer 2023, and we invited Derek to play with us. We'd been writing, arranging, home recording, and mixing these songs (when life allows) since then and having a blast along the way.

Additionally, my beloved and talented brother Garret lends some backing vocals, general good times, and a lovely guitar lead to the bonus track "Backbeat."

I thought this picture disc project would be a fun way to make a physical artifact with a graphic art component; a tangible snapshot of Brian's songwriting, our creative effort as a group of close friends, and the occasional refuge from the world we found in the basement while working on these songs.
